Z scale or Z gauge is one of the smallest commercially available model railway scale, introduced by Marklin in 1972. In the U.S. these model trains are called micro trains. This miniature world in 1:220 scale was built by a German model railway club. The model train layout is presenting the city of Lubeck in Northern Germany at the turn of the century. Although the tracks have a gauge of just 6.50 mm there are many details. The whole layout is controlled digitally by Selectrix Digital. Please, enjoy this piece of art.
While visiting a great model railway exhibition in Germany, Pilentum found this amazing model train layout in OO gauge. It was built as an module system, and it’s called “Langley Industrial District Railway”. The small layout is almost a work of art. There are steam locomotives of the Great Western Railway and of the British Railways. OO gauge or OO scale is today the most popular modelling scale in the U.K. 00 gauge respectively 00 scale uses the same track as HO, which is not correct for this slightly larger scale, but it is the most common British standard for model trains.
The Model Railway Club from Helmond in the Netherlands was founded in 1984. The members are best known for their model train modules. Of course, only those railroads are built that exist in reality in Northern Germany. Therefore, you can see very few model trains. The focus is on the landscaping, especially on the design of the East Frisian islands.
This historical model railway layout is presenting the Dutch village Winterswijk in Holland in the 1920's and 1930's. Winterswijk was then an important railway junction with a large rail yard, with two stations and with three roundhouses. From Winterswijk trains drove in all directions, but especially to the Ruhr area to transport coal from there to the west of the Netherlands. The model train layout was built by Transit Oost, a foundation in the Netherlands that is specialized in the preservation and in the restoration of historic vehicles of public transport. In Transit Oost’s railway museum there are historic buses, railway uniforms and even real locomotives, railcars and wagons. To preserve the memory of the marshalling yard at Winterswijk, this model railway was built. The layout has got a size of 15 meters x 4 meters, and there are scenes, locomotives and vehicles of the railway operation in the 1920's and 1930's.
